Meerkats’s Room
3 to 5 years
✨ Routine & Learning
Our daily routine provides a balance of structured learning experiences, child-led exploration, outdoor adventures, group activities and opportunities for rest and relaxation. Through our play-based curriculum, children explore early literacy, numeracy, science, technology, engineering, art and mathematics (STEAM).
Our educators thoughtfully plan experiences around children's individual interests, abilities and developmental needs, encouraging them to ask questions, solve problems, think creatively and become confident learners.
💖 Educator Support & Relationships
Our passionate and experienced educators understand the importance of building strong, trusting relationships with every child.
We focus on supporting children's social and emotional development, helping them recognise and express their feelings, develop empathy, build friendships and navigate everyday challenges.
Through positive guidance and meaningful interactions, children learn important life skills such as sharing, cooperation, resilience, independence and respect for others.
🌱 Independence & School Readiness
As children grow, we encourage them to take increasing responsibility for their own learning and daily routines. Our educators support children to develop essential skills, including:
- Recognising and writing their names
- Exploring letters, sounds, numbers and early counting
- Developing independence with toileting, dressing and personal belongings
- Following instructions and participating in group discussions
- Building friendships, confidence and problem-solving skills
- Developing emotional regulation and resilience
Our approach to school readiness focuses on the whole child, recognising that confidence, independence, emotional wellbeing and social connections are just as important as early academic skills.
🎨 Creative Learning & Daily Experiences
Every day in the Meerkats Room is filled with opportunities to explore, create and discover. Children enjoy a variety of engaging experiences, including:
- Creative arts, painting, drawing, collage and craft
- Sensory exploration with playdough, clay, sand and water
- Science experiments, investigations and discovery activities
- Construction, puzzles and problem-solving games
- Storytelling, music, movement and dramatic play
- Early literacy, numeracy and name-recognition activities
- Group projects that encourage collaboration and teamwork
Our learning experiences are designed to inspire imagination, encourage curiosity and allow children to learn through hands-on discovery.
🧘 Emotional Wellbeing & Mindfulness
We recognise that developing emotional awareness and self-regulation is an important part of early childhood.
Our educators support children through conversations about feelings, mindfulness experiences, breathing exercises, quiet spaces and positive social interactions.
We encourage children to express themselves, build resilience and develop the confidence to seek support when needed.
🌿 Outdoor Learning & Exploration
Our outdoor learning environments provide endless opportunities for movement, discovery and adventure.
Children enjoy our climbing frames, trampoline, monkey bars, swing sets with traditional swings, balancing, bike riding, gardening, sand play and creative outdoor experiences. Outdoor learning also provides opportunities to explore nature, develop gross motor skills, build confidence and engage in imaginative and collaborative play.
🔍 Inquiry-Based Learning – Exploring Our World
Each term in our Meerkats Room, we embark on an exciting new learning journey through our inquiry-based learning program.
Our educators introduce a new topic each term, inspired by the children's interests, curiosity and the world around them. Together, we take a deep dive into the topic, encouraging children to ask questions, investigate, experiment and discover new ideas.
From exploring the amazing human body and discovering how it works, to travelling through outer space, learning about planets and stars, or investigating the fascinating world of insects and bugs, our inquiry topics bring learning to life in meaningful and engaging ways.
Throughout the term, children explore their chosen topic through hands-on experiments, creative arts, storytelling, sensory experiences, group discussions, research and collaborative projects.
This approach encourages children to become curious thinkers, confident communicators and enthusiastic problem-solvers, while developing their early literacy, numeracy, critical thinking and investigative skills.
Our goal is to inspire a genuine love of learning by giving children the time, space and encouragement to explore their questions, make discoveries and develop a deeper understanding of the world around them.
🤝 Working Together With Families
We believe families are children's first and most important teachers.
Our educators work closely with families to understand each child's unique personality, interests, strengths and developmental needs.
Through open communication, shared learning experiences and genuine partnerships, we aim to create a strong sense of belonging for every child.
At Collard's Childcare & Kindergarten, we're more than just a place to learn. We're part of your village, supporting your child to grow into a confident, capable and happy learner, ready for their next big adventure.
